Rootless Chord Voicings are very effective when performing with a Bass player. Here are some ii V I patterns to practice. I develop rootless voicings by isolating the 3rd and 7th of each chord. I then add on extensions like the 9th, 11th or 13th to the diads.

Hi Ed! I took a few classes with you at Dreamcatcher in Roswell a number of years ago. I recently relocated to the Philly, PA area. I am playing with a Jazz Band and the rootless voicings are just what I can use right now! I hope you and Bob Shaw are doing well. I learned some important lessons from both of you that I still remember and use.
I too met you at Dreamcatcher Guitars in Roswell at least 9 years go. Clearing out to move yet again, I stumbled upon your hand out called “Understanding Tonal Centers”. Obviously I felt it was importnat enough to keep and reviewed it. I am finally able to understand it all and plan on trying to sink it into this testa dura! Thanks again.
