2009 Four Freshman Society Convention/Reunion
Ed recently performed at the 2009 Four Freshman Society Convention/Reunion held at the Ravinia Hotel in Atlanta. Three hundred & ninety one Four Freshman fans from around the world gathered in Atlanta for three days of fun and terrific music. Ed played solo during the dinner hour and was followed by the GPC Jazz Ensemble and then a concert by the Four Freshmen.

September 4th: Student Gig Night
On September 4th, Ed hosted a “Student Gig Night” for some of his singer/songwriter students and jazz students at Land of 1,000 Hills Coffeehouse. Jazz students who performed included George Engelhard, John Paulos, Mal Eanes and Neal Gassaway. Singer/songwriter students included Alex Cook and Ashley Smith. Everybody played great, the weather was great and jazz saxophonist (and prior guitar student) David Engelhard sat it for a couple of tunes. There was an ample and appreciative audience.

Capital City Club
Ed has also been performing around town with his trio, with Stewart Forscher on drums and Dough Rolph on bass. Recently they played a gig at the Capital City Club where jazz guitarist Earl Klugh was in attendance. Earl stayed the entire night and was very gracious with the guys. Earl said he appreciated seeing a guitar trio without piano and enjoyed the interplay among the instruments. He talked with the guys for a while. Ed says, “ I could not resist asking him about Lenny Breau… Earl thinks he might have been the best player ever…”

October 2nd: Student Gig Blues Night
On October 2nd, Ed hosted a “Student Gig Blues Night” at Land of 1,000 Hills Coffeehouse. The place was packed inside and out! The rhythm section included students Bill Thomas on drums, Hal Gray on guitar, Mark Jones on guitar and special guest, Chuck Beasley on bass. Several of Ed’s younger blues students also performed including Jesse Fuller, Alex Gibson, Tom Ness, Jimmy Curdie and Ray Harty. The group played selections from Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan. It was a fantastic night with a giant jam at the end. Everybody played great!
